The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 We have indeed shown him the way – whether he is grateful or ingrate. 3 We have prepared for unbelievers chains and collars and a blazing fire. 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. 7 And they give food, inspite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to Miskin (poor), the orphan, and the captive, 8 saying, "We feed you for the sake of God alone, we seek neither recompense nor thanks from you. 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy. 11 and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. 12 Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. 13 The shades of the garden will be closely spread over them and it will be easy for them to reach the fruits. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 (Transparent as) glass, made of silver; they have measured them according to a measure. 16 Therein they shall be served a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 (The water of) a spring therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be attended by youths who will not age -- when you see them you will think them to be like sprinkled pearls -- 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 Their garments will be of fine green silk, and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
