The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
