The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
