And assuredly We have created human being from ringing clay of loam moulded. 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 And when your Lord said to the angels: Surely I am going to create a mortal of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 28 So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him. 29 So, the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 except Iblis who refused to join with the others in prostration. 31 He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate? 32 "How could I bow," said he, "before a mortal whom You created from fermented clay dried tingling hard?" 33 Said He: "Go forth, then, from this [angelic state]: for, behold, thou art [henceforth] accursed, 34 Upon thee shall rest the curse, till the Day of Doom.' 35 He said: My Lord! then respite me till the time when they are raised. 36 (Allah) said: "Respite is granted thee 37 till the appointed time. 38 "O my Lord," he said, "since You have led me into error I'll beguile them with the pleasures of the world and lead them astray, 39 except the devoted amongst Your worshippers. 40 God said, "The path which leads to Me is a straight 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
