The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
