Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In a lofty garden, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
