Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and the ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
