۞ No sooner the example of the son of Mary was mentioned than, lo and behold, your people raised a clamour 57 And they say, "Are our gods best, or he?" This they set forth to thee, only by way of disputation: yea, they are a contentious people. 58 (Jesus) was only a creature whom We favoured and made an example for the children of Israel. 59 And had We willed We could have appointed angels born of you in the earth to succeed each other. 60 Verily he (i.e., Jesus) is a portent of the Hour. So be in no doubt concerning it and follow Me. This is the Straight Way. 61 Let satan not prevent you from the right path. He is your sworn enemy". 62 And when Jesus came with the clear signs he said, 'I have come to you with wisdom, and that I may make clear to you some of that whereon you are at variance; so fear you God and obey you me. 63 Assuredly God is my Lord and your Lord; therefore serve Him; this is a straight path.' 64 But the denominations from among them differed [and separated], so woe to those who have wronged from the punishment of a painful Day. 65 Do they wait for aught but the hour, that it should come! upon them all of a sudden while they do not perceive? 66 Close friends will turn into enemies of one another on that Day, except the pious. 67
