Nay, by the moon, 32 And the night when it departs, 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 Verily, it (Hell, or their denial of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, or the Day of Resurrection) is but one of the greatest calamities. 35 A warning unto humankind 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 concerning the sinners, 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 like startled wild donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
