The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
