The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And shade extended 30 and flowing water 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
