Noah (Nooh)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
WE SENT NOAH to his people to warn them before the painful punishment came upon them. 1 [Noah] said, "My people! I am but a plain warner to you, 2 saying, "Serve God, and fear Him, and obey you me, 3 He will forgive your sins and will grant you respite till an appointed time. When the time appointed by God arrives, it cannot be postponed, if you only knew." 4 He said: "O my Lord! Verily, I have called my people night and day (i.e. secretly and openly to accept the doctrine of Islamic Monotheism). 5 but the more I called, the farther they fled. 6 And every time I called them that You may forgive them, they thrust their fingers into their ears, and covered themselves with their garments, and became wayward, and behaved with downright insolence. 7 I called to them clearly, 8 and, behold I preached to them in public; and I spoke to them secretly, in private; 9 And I said: ask forgiveness of your Lord; verily He is ever Most Forgiving. 10 He will send down abundant rain from the sky for you, 11 And He will add unto you riches and children and will appoint unto you gardens and will appoint unto you rivers. 12 What ails you, that you look not for majesty in God, 13 "'Seeing that it is He that has created you in diverse stages? 14 ‘Do you not see how Allah has created the seven heavens atop each other?’ 15 "'And made the moon a light in their midst, and made the sun as a (Glorious) Lamp? 16 And Allah hath caused you to grow from the earth as a growth. 17 how He will then return you to it and bring you forth again, 18 And Allah hath made the earth a wide expanse for you 19 so that you walk in its spacious paths.' 20
