The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And the family in which he was. 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 except those who are steadfast 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35
