(O Muhammad), recite in the Book the account of Abraham. Most surely he was a man of truth, a Prophet. 41 Remember, when he said to his father: "O my father, why do you worship that which can neither hear nor see nor even profit you the least? 42 Father, there has come to me knowledge such as came not to thee; so follow me, and I will guide thee on a level path. 43 Father! Do not worship Satan -- for, truly, Satan is a rebel against the Most Gracious One! 44 "O my father! Verily! I fear lest a torment from the Most Beneficent (Allah) overtake you, so that you become a companion of Shaitan (Satan) (in the Hell-fire)." [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi] 45 Said he, 'What, art thou shrinking from my gods, Abraham? Surely, if thou givest not over, I shall stone thee; so forsake me now for some while.' 46 He said: Peace be unto thee! I shall ask forgiveness of my Lord for thee. Lo! He was ever gracious unto me. 47 "And I shall remain separated from you and all that you worship other than Allah and shall worship my Lord; possibly, by worshipping my Lord, I will not be amongst the unfortunate.” 48 So, when he had withdrawn from them and that which they were worshipping beside Allah, We gave him Isaac and Jacob. Each of them We made a prophet. 49 And We gave them of Our mercy, and we made for them a reputation of high honor. 50
