Elucidated (Fussilat)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 [This is] a revelation from the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful - 2 a Book whose revelations are well expounded, an Arabic Quran for people who possess knowledge, 3 one bearing good news and warning. Yet most of them turned away and are not wont to give heed. 4 and so they say, [as it were:] "Our hearts are veiled from whatever thou callest us to, [O Muhammad,] and in our ears is deafness, and between us and thee is a barrier. Do, then, [whatever thou wilt, whereas,] behold, we shall do [as we have always done]!" 5 Say, O [Muhammad], "I am only a man like you to whom it has been revealed that your god is but one God; so take a straight course to Him and seek His forgiveness." And woe to those who associate others with Allah - 6 Who do not give a due share of their wealth for the welfare of others, and do not believe in the Hereafter. 7 Indeed for those who believed and did good deeds, is a limitless reward. 8
