The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the setting star, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
