And We sent Saleh to the tribe of Thamud, from their own community; he said, “O my people! Worship Allah – you do not have any God except Him; indeed a clear proof has come to you from your Lord; this is Allah’s she-camel – a sign for you – so leave her free to feed in Allah’s earth, and do not touch her with evil intentions for a painful punishment will seize you.” 73 And remember when He appointed you successors after Ad, and lodged you in the land, taking to yourselves castles of its plains, and hewing its mountains into houses. Remember God's bounties, and do not mischief in the earth, working corruption.' 74 The leaders of the arrogant party among his people said to those who were reckoned powerless - those among them who believed: "know ye indeed that Salih is a messenger from his Lord?" They said: "We do indeed believe in the revelation which hath been sent through him." 75 Those who were haughty said: Surely we are deniers of what you believe in. 76 Then they ham-strung the she-camel, and insolently defied the order of their Lord, saying: "O Salih! bring about thy threats, if thou art a messenger (of Allah)!" 77 So the earthquake seized them, and morning found them in their habitation fallen prostrate. 78 And (Salih) turned from them and said: O my people! I delivered my Lord's message unto you and gave you good advice, but ye love not good advisers. 79 And (remember) Lout (Lot), when he said to his people: "Do you commit the worst sin such as none preceding you has committed in the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns)? 80 See, you approach men lustfully instead of women; no, you are a people that do exceed.' 81 And naught was the answer of his people save that they said: drive them forth from your city, verily they are a people who would be pure! 82 But we saved him and his family, except his wife: she was of those who legged behind. 83 We rained down on them a shower [of brimstone]. Then see what was the end of the evil-doers. 84
