The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of a clear Book, the Quran. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption). 9 We verily sent (messengers) before thee among the factions of the men of old. 10 No Messenger went to them whom they did not mock. 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
