The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 and when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 by the night and all that it envelops; 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 that you shall surely ride from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]? ۩ 21 Yea those who disbelieve belie. 22 And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves. 23 So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
