HENCE, [remember how it was] when thy Sustainer summoned Moses: "Go unto those evil doing people. 10 The people of Fir'awn; fear they Me not? 11 Moses replied, "My Lord, I fear they will reject me, 12 My breast is constricted and my tongue is not fluent, so endow Messengership on Aaron. 13 Moreover, they keep a grave charge [pending] against me, and I fear that they will slay me." 14 Allah said: "Nay! Go you both with Our Signs. Verily! We shall be with you, listening. 15 go both to Pharaoh and both of you say to him: 'We are (each) a Messenger from the Lord of all the Worlds. 16 "'Send thou with us the Children of Israel.'" 17 (Pharaoh) said (unto Moses): Did we not rear thee among us as a child? And thou didst dwell many years of thy life among us, 18 And [then] you did your deed which you did, and you were of the ungrateful." 19 Moses said, "I did do it and I made a mistake. 20 So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and prophethood and appointed me [as one] of the messengers. 21 Now this is the favour that you tauntingly remind me of: that you enslaved the Children of Israel!" 22 Pharaoh said, 'And what is the Lord of all Being?' 23 Musa (Moses) said: "Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, if you seek to be convinced with certainty." 24 (Pharaoh) said unto those around him: Hear ye not? 25 He said: Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 26 (Pharaoh) said: "Truly your messenger who has been sent to you is a veritable madman!" 27 [Moses] said, "Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were to reason." 28 (Pharaoh) said: If thou choosest a god other than me, I assuredly shall place thee among the prisoners. 29 Said he: "Even if I should bring about before thee something that clearly shows the truth?" 30 Pharaoh said, "Show it then, if you are telling the truth!" 31 So [Musa (Moses)] threw his stick, and behold, it was a serpent, manifest. 32 And he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white to all beholders! 33
