And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ but We caused him to be cast forth on a desert shore, sick [at heart] as he was, 145 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more, 147 And they believed, therefor We gave them comfort for a while. 148 Now, ask them, has your Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Did We create the angels females, to which they were witnesses? 150 Oh, verily, it is out of their own [inclination to] falsehood that some people assert, 151 Allah has begotten; and most surely they are liars. 152 Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 Will you not, then, bethink yourselves? 155 Or, do you have a clear authority? 156 Bring your Book, if what you say is true! 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him), 159 all of them except the chosen servants of Allah. 160 neither you nor what you worship 161 cannot mislead anyone 162 Save him Who is to roast in the Flaming Fire. 163 None of us is there, but has a known station; 164 we are the rangers, 165 we are they that give glory. 166 What, would they then say: 167 “If only we had the Reminder which had been granted to the people of yore 168 "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!" 169 They have rejected the Quran. They will soon know the consequences (of their disbelief). 170 And certainly Our word has already gone forth in respect of Our servants, the apostles: 171 That verily they! they shall be made triumphant. 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 And (then) see them, so they too shall see. 175 Do they really wish to hasten Our punishment? 176 But when it cometh home to them, then it will be a hapless morn for those who have been warned. 177 Withdraw from them awhile 178 And see thou: they themselves shall presently see. 179 Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)! 180 And peace be unto the sent ones. 181 and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. 182
