The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
