We did deliver aforetime the Children of Israel from humiliating Punishment, 30 From Fir'aun (Pharaoh); Verily! He was arrogant and was of the Musrifun (those who transgress beyond bound in spending and other things and commit great sins). 31 And We knowingly chose them, among all others of their time. 32 And We vouchsafed unto them signs wherein was a manifest favour. 33 Lo! these, forsooth, are saying: 34 "After we die, we shall never be raised to life again. 35 So then, bring forth our forefathers [as witnesses,] if what you claim is true!" 36 What! Are they better than the people of Tubba and those who were before them? We destroyed them because they were guilty of sin. 37 For [thus it is:] We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them in mere idle play: 38 We did not create them save with a purpose, yet most people have no knowledge of this. 39 Surely the day of separation is their appointed term, of all of them 40 A day when friend can in naught avail friend, nor can they be helped, 41 Except those upon whom Allah has mercy; indeed He only is the Most Honourable, the Most Merciful. 42
