Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 and ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter among My servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
