Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
