The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
