The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 except those that pray, 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honoured. 35
