In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
