The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Woe to the defrauders, 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, 2 but who, when they measure or weigh for others, give less than their due. 3 Do they not realise that they will be raised to life 4 On a Mighty Day, 5 The day all mankind will stand before the Lord of all the worlds? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is? 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 10 who cry lies to the Day of Doom; 11 Yet none gives the lie to it except the transgressor immersed in sin; 12 When Our revelations are conveyed to him, he says, "Fables of the ancients!" 13 No! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 Nay, verily, from [the grace of] their Sustainer shall they on that Day be debarred; 15 Then lo! they verily will burn in hell, 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 Nay! Verily, the Record (writing of the deeds) of Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil), is (preserved) in 'Illiyyun. 18 And what could make thee conceive what that mode most lofty will be? 19 A record [indelibly] inscribed, 20 Those who are drawn near (to Allah) shall witness it. 21 Indeed the virtuous are in serenity. 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 The sealing of it is (with) musk; and for that let the aspirers aspire. 26 With the wine is a drink from Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink. 28 Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: 29 when they passed by them, they would wink at one another; 30 And when they went back to their people turned to make fun of them; 31 And when they saw them, they said: Most surely these are in error; 32 But they had not been sent as keepers over them! 33 But this Day (the Day of Resurrection) those who believe will laugh at the disbelievers 34 seated upon their couches, they are looking around. 35 Will not the Unbelievers have been paid back for what they did? 36
