Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
