The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 By those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed); 2 And by those that swim along (i.e. angels or planets in their orbits, etc.). 3 And those who race each other in a race 4 Then those who regulate the affair. 5 The Day when the quaking will cause a violent convulsion, 6 Followed by oft-repeated (commotions): 7 Hearts on that day shall palpitate, 8 [and] their eyes downcast... 9 The disbelievers say, “Will we really return to our former state?” 10 even after we have turned into decayed bones?" 11 They say: “That will then be a return with a great loss!” 12 However, it will only take a single blast 13 And they will wake up suddenly. 14 Hath there come unto thee the history of Moses? 15 When his Lord called to him in Tuwa's holy vale? 16 "Go to the Pharaoh who has become refractory, 17 Then say: Have you (a desire) to purify yourself: 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 Moses showed him the great sign, 20 but the Pharaoh rejected it and disobeyed (Moses). 21 Further, he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah). 22 and then he gathered [his great ones,] and called [unto his people,] 23 then said: 'I am your lord, the most high' 24 Thereupon Allah seized him for the chastisement of the World to Come as well as of the present. 25 Verily herein is lesson for him who feareth. 26
