The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
