The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 or orders piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
