They will ask you about Dhu'l-Qarnayn. Say, "I will give you an account of him." 83 We granted him power in the land and endowed him with all kinds of resources. 84 So he followed a way. 85 until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and nearby he found a nation. 'ThulKarnain' We said, 'you must either punish them or show them kindness' 86 He said: "We will chastise him who does wrong, whereafter he will be returned to his Lord and He will chastise him grievously. 87 As for those who believe and do good, they will receive virtuous rewards and We will tell them to do only what they can. 88 He again pursued a purpose. 89 until he reached the limit where the sun rises and he found it rising on a people whom We had provided no shelter from it. 90 (He left them) as they were: We completely understood what was before him. 91 He travelled 92 Until, when he came between two mountains, he found before them a nation that did not appear to understand any speech. 93 'ThulKarnain' they said, 'Look, Gog and Magog are corrupting the earth. Build for us a barrier between us and them, and we will pay you a tribute' 94 He said, "What My Lord has given me is better [than any tribute]. Help me with a force of labourers and I will erect a barrier between you and them: 95 Bring me ingots of iron!" Then, after he had [piled up the iron and] filled the gap between the two mountain-sides, he said: "[Light a fire and] ply your bellows!" At length, when he had made it [glow like] fire, he commanded: "Bring me molten copper which I may pour upon it." 96 (Thus he constructed the barrier which) neither Gog nor Magog were able to climb nor were they able to dig a tunnel through the iron and brass barrier. 97 He said: 'This is a mercy from my Lord. But when my Lord's promise is come, He will make it dust. The promise of my Lord is true' 98 ۞ On that Day, We shall let them surge against each other like waves and then the Trumpet will be blown and We shall gather them all together. 99 And on that Day We shall place hell, for all to see, before those who denied the truth 100 whose eyes had become blind against My admonition and who were utterly disinclined to hear it. 101
