Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Clear Book. 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
