The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
