The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 On an open record. 3 by the much-visited House, 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
