O thou folded in garments! 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 half the night, or a little less 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
