The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Woe to the diminishers, 1 Those who when they take the measure from mankind demand it full, 2 Whilst when they measure or weigh for them, give less. 3 Imagine such men not that they shall be raised up? 4 on a fateful Day. 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 And what will explain to thee what Sijjin is? 8 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed. 9 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 Yet none gives the lie to it except the transgressor immersed in sin; 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." 13 Nay! But on their hearts is the Ran (covering of sins and evil deeds) which they used to earn. 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 then they shall roast in Hell. 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 Surely the ledger of the pious will be in 'Illiyun (heights above the heights). 18 And what could make thee conceive what that mode most lofty will be? 19 a written record, 20 Witnessed by those who are honoured. 21 Truly the Righteous will be in Bliss: 22 upon couches gazing; 23 You can trace on their faces the joy of their bliss. 24 Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed: 25 its seal will be of musk -- for this let the aspirants aspire -- 26 a wine tempered with the waters of Tasnim, 27 A spring whereof drink those nearest to Allah. 28 Behold, the sinners were laughing at the believers, 29 And whenever they passed by them, used to wink at each other (in mockery); 30 And when they returned to their household they returned jesting. 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 But on the Day [of Judgment,] they who had attained to faith will [be able to] laugh at the [erstwhile] deniers of the truth: 34 On Thrones (of Dignity) they will command (a sight) (of all things). 35 Will not the disbelievers then be duly recompensed for their laughing at the believers? 36
