Then the twain journeyed until when they embarked in a boat, he scuttled it. Musa said: hast thou scuttled it that thou mayest drown the people thereof? Assuredly thou hast committed a thing grievous. 71 He answered: "Did I not tell thee that thou canst have no patience with me?" 72 He said, "Do not take me to task for what I have forgotten, and do not be hard on me on account of what I have done!" 73 Then they both proceeded, till they met a boy, he (Khidr) killed him. Musa (Moses) said: "Have you killed an innocent person who had killed none? Verily, you have committed a thing "Nukra" (a great Munkar - prohibited, evil, dreadful thing)!" 74 ۞ The man said, "Did I not tell you that you would not be able to have any patience with me?" 75 Moses said: "If I ask you any thing again then do not keep me with you. You have my apology." 76 So they went on until when they came to the people of a town, they asked them for food, but they refused to entertain them as guests. Then they found in it a wall which was on the point of falling, so he put it into a right state. (Musa) said: If you had pleased, you might certainly have taken a recompense for it. 77 He answered, "This is where you and I must part company. But first I will tell you the meaning of the things you could not bear with patiently. 78 "As for that boat, it belonged to some needy people who toiled upon the sea - and I desired to damage it because [I knew that] behind them was a king who is wont to seize every boat by brute force. 79 As for the lad, his parents were believers; and we were afraid he would impose on them insolence and unbelief; 80 and so we desired that their Sustainer grant them in his stead [a child] of greater purity than him, and closer [to them] in loving tenderness. 81 "The wall belonged to two young orphans in the town whose father had been a righteous man, and a treasure of theirs lay underneath it. So your Lord wanted them to come of age and then to dig up their treasure as a mercy from Him. I did not do [it] of my own accord. That is the explanation of the things about which you were not able to restrain yourself." 82
