The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 Ad treated (the truth) as a lie, so how (great) was My punishment and My warning! 18 We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous, 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 22
