Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 a warning to humans, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Every soul will be in captivity for its deeds 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 "What has caused you to enter Hell?" 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
