Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
