The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 And every dwelling that We destroyed, had a known decree for it. 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they said, “O you upon whom the Qur’an has been sent, you are indeed insane.” 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
