۞ And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Ibrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 Said he: "Indeed, you and your forefathers have obviously gone astray!" 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said, 'Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who originated them, and I am one of those that bear witness thereunto. 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lout (Lot) to the land which We have blessed for the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
