O Ye apostles! eat the good things and work righteously; verily of that which ye work I am the Knower. 51 And verily this Brotherhood of yours is a single Brotherhood, and I am your Lord and Cherisher: therefore fear Me (and no other). 52 But they (mankind) have broken their religion among them into sects, each group rejoicing in its tenets. 53 So leave them in their error till a time. 54 Do they fancy that Our continuing to give them wealth and children (means) that 55 have no other purpose except to help them in acquiring material benefits? No indeed. But they do not understand. 56 Surely those who stand in awe for fear of their Lord, 57 And those who believe in the signs of their Lord – 58 Who do not associate any one with their Lord, 59 And those who give that (their charity) which they give (and also do other good deeds) with their hearts full of fear (whether their alms and charities, etc., have been accepted or not), because they are sure to return to their Lord (for reckoning). 60 it is they who vie with one another in doing good works, and it is they who outrun [all others] in attaining to them! 61 And We do not lay on any soul a burden except to the extent of its ability, and with Us is a book which speaks the truth, and they shall not be dealt with unjustly. 62 Nay, their hearts are lost in ignorance of all this; and their deeds too vary from the way (mentioned above). They will persist in these deeds 63 until - after We shall have taken to task, through suffering, those from among them who [now] are lost in the pursuit of pleasures - they cry out in [belated] supplication. 64 (It will be said): "Groan not in supplication this day: for ye shall certainly not be helped by Us. 65 My revelations were recited to you, but you turned your backs 66 behaving arrogantly, and making fun, and talking nonsense (about the Book in your nightly chats)." 67 Have they not pondered the saying, or came there upon them that which came not upon their fathers, the ancients? 68 Or do they not recognize their Messenger, and so deny him? 69 Or do they say, "He is possessed"? Nay, he has brought them the Truth, but most of them hate the Truth. 70 Had the truth followed their caprices, the heavens and the earth and whosoever in them is had surely corrupted. Nay, We brought them their Remembrance, but from their Remembrance they turned. 71 Or dost thou [O Muhammad] ask of them any worldly recompense? But [they ought to know that] recompense from thy Sustainer is best, since He is the best of providers! 72 You are calling them to a Straight Way, 73 And verily those who believe not in the Hereafter are deviating from that Way. 74 ۞ And if We show mercy to them and remove the distress they have, they would persist in their inordinacy, blindly wandering on. 75 And assuredly We took hold of them with the torment, yet they humbled not themselves to their Lord, nor did they entreat. 76 Until when We open upon them a door of severe chastisement, lo! they are in despair at it. 77
