The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
