As for one who turns away from the remembrance of the Gracious God, We appoint for him a devil, who will become his intimate companion. 36 Satan will prevent them from the right path while they think that they have the right guidance. 37 Until when he comes before Us he will say (to the devil): "Would to God there was a distance of the East and West between you and me, for you were an evil companion!" 38 And it profiteth you not this day, because ye did wrong, that ye will be sharers in the doom. 39 Can you, (O Prophet), then make the deaf hear, or direct to the Right Way the blind or one lost in manifest error? 40 We shall inflict retribution on them, whether We take you away from the world (before We do that), 41 Or (if) We show you that wherewith We threaten them, then verily, We have perfect command over them. 42 Therefore hold fast to what We have divinely revealed to you; indeed you are upon the Straight Path. (The Holy Prophets can never go astray). 43 it is certainly a reminder to you and to your people and you will soon be called to account. 44 Ask all Our Messengers whom We sent before you whether We had appointed any deities beside the Merciful One to be worshipped. 45
