(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
