Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The indubitable event! 1 What is the Sure Reality? 2 And what shall make thee know that which the Inevitable Calamity is. 3 The Thamud and 'Ad denied the consequential calamity. 4 As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the outburst. 5 And the 'Ad were destroyed by the furious cold blast of roaring wind 6 which continued to strike them for seven nights and eight days so that eventually you could see the people lying dead like the hollow trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 7 Now dost thou see any remnant of them? 8 And Pharaoh and those before him, and the communities that were destroyed, brought error, 9 And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity]. 10 Indeed when the water swelled up, We boarded you onto the ship. 11 as a lesson for you, but only attentive ears will retain it. 12 And when the trumpet shall sound a single blast. 13 and the earth and the mountains are lifted up and crushed with a single blow, 14 On that Day shall the (Great) Event come to pass. 15 And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm. 16 and will turn frail, losing all force. The angels will be around the heavens and on that day eight of them will carry the Throne of your Lord above all the creatures. 17 That Day shall you be brought to Judgement, not a secret of you will be hidden. 18 Then, as for him who is given his record in his right hand, he will say: Take, read my book! 19 “I was certain that I will confront my account.” 20 He is therefore in the desired serenity. 21 In a lofty Paradise, 22 Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near. 23 'Eat and drink with wholesome appetite for that you did long ago, in the days gone by.' 24 But he who is given his record in his left hand will say, "If only I had never been given my Record 25 and not known my reckoning! 26 I wish death had put an end to me. 27 My wealth has not helped me a thing 28 "My power has perished from me!"... 29 [Thereupon the command will go forth:] "Lay hold of him, and shackle him, 30 “Then hurl him into the blazing fire.” 31 then in a chain of seventy cubits' length insert him! 32 for, behold, he did not believe in God, the Tremendous, 33 Nor did he urge the feeding of the poor. 34 and so, no friend has here today, 35 “Nor any food except the pus discharged from the people of hell.” 36 Which none but the wrongdoers eat. 37
